The 2014 NAB AFL Rising Star was Lewis Taylor of the Brisbane Lions. The award is given each year to the best young AFL player. Taylor won by just one vote more than Marcus Bontempelli, the closest finish ever. Each round, a rising star is nominated for the award. To be eligible, a player must be under 21 on January 1 of the year and have played 10 or fewer senior AFL games before the season starts. A suspended player can be nominated but cannot win. At the end of the year, one of the 23 nominees wins the award.
