2013 Penang state election

The 13th Penang state election was held on 5 May 2013 to elect all 40 seats in the Penang State Legislative Assembly. There were 846,232 registered voters, and 735,639 ballots were cast (about 87% turnout).

Results
- Pakatan Rakyat (PR), led by Lim Guan Eng (DAP), won 30 seats.
- Barisan Nasional (BN) won 10 seats.
- PR gained one seat from BN (Seberang Jaya), increasing its tally from 29 to 30 seats and keeping a two‑thirds majority.
- The popular vote swung to PR with 490,978 votes (67.5%), while BN received 233,246 votes (32.1%).

Aftermath
- Lim Guan Eng remained the Chief Minister, continuing PR rule in Penang.
- The campaign highlighted PR’s record from 2008, including debt reduction and increased investment, while BN conducted a high‑spending campaign with concerts and other events.
