2011 MoveThatBlock.com Indy 225
The 2011 MoveThatBlock.com Indy 225 was the 13th race of the 2011 IndyCar Series and the fourth running of the New Hampshire 225 after a 13-year break. It took place on August 14, 2011, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. The 1.025-mile (1.65 km) track hosted a 225-lap race, covering about 230.6 miles (371 km). The weather was around 73°F (23°C) and cloudy. The event was televised on ABC in the United States.
Pole position went to Dario Franchitti of Chip Ganassi Racing, with a two-lap qualifying time of 43.1976 seconds. The fastest lap during the race was set by Scott Dixon, also of Chip Ganassi Racing, with a 22.3481-second lap on lap 149. The podium finished with Ryan Hunter-Reay winning for Andretti Autosport, Oriol Servià finishing second for Newman/Haas Racing, and Scott Dixon taking third.
Weather and rain affected the race, shortening it to 220 laps (about 225 miles) instead of the planned 225 laps. A restart with 10 laps to go, in wet conditions, led to Danica Patrick spinning and triggering a multi-car crash, including Will Power. Because the track was still too wet, the race was red-flagged with six laps remaining. The running order at the time of the aborted restart determined the unofficial result, making Hunter-Reay the winner. Protests from Newman/Haas Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, and Andretti Autosport were heard on August 22, but the result did not change, and Hunter-Reay was declared the official winner.
