Generation for a National Encounter (GEN) is a center-left political party in Argentina. It was founded in 2007 by Margarita Stolbizer after splitting from the Radical Civic Union because she opposed the UCR’s backing of Roberto Lavagna. GEN promotes social liberalism, progressivism, and social democracy, and sits in the center to center-left of the political spectrum. Since 2021 it has been part of the Juntos por el Cambio coalition.

GEN has a history of many alliances with other non-Peronist groups. In 2007 it supported the Civic Coalition and Elisa Carrió. In 2011 it joined the Broad Progressive Front (FAP) for Hermes Binner, which later became UNEN. In 2015 Stolbizer ran for president with Progresistas within UNEN. In 2017 the party joined the 1País alliance with the Renewal Front. In 2019 it left Renewal Front to form the Federal Consensus coalition backing Roberto Lavagna. Ahead of the 2021 elections, GEN left Federal Consensus and backed Juntos por el Cambio, with Stolbizer supporting UCR candidate Facundo Manes in the JxC primaries.

In 2021 Margarita Stolbizer was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, giving GEN federal representation for the first time since 2017. The party holds 1 seat in the Chamber of Deputies (out of 257) and 0 seats in the Senate (out of 72). As of 2017, GEN had about 35,799 members. The party’s colors are red, gray, and black, and its international affiliation is the Progressive Alliance.
