The 2004–05 Montreal Canadiens season would have been the team's 96th overall and 88th in the NHL, but no games were played because of the NHL lockout, which affected all teams. The Canadiens’ preseason and regular-season schedules were announced on July 14, 2004. The team was led by general manager Bob Gainey, coach Claude Julien, captain Saku Koivu, and they played at the Bell Centre. Their minor league affiliates were the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Long Beach Ice Dogs. There were roster moves from June 8, 2004 to February 16, 2005. The 2004 NHL Entry Draft took place on June 26 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Montreal selected nine players.
