Hull City played in the Football League Third Division in the 2000–01 season. Managed by Brian Little, they hosted games at Boothferry Park. The club's chairman changed during the season, with Nick Buchanan serving until March and Adam Pearson taking over from March. Hull finished 6th in the league, just missing promotion. They were eliminated in the first round of the FA Cup, League Cup, and Football League Trophy. The league’s top scorer was Rodney Rowe with 6 goals, while John Eyre was the season’s overall top scorer with 7. The highest home attendance was 13,310 for a match against Leyton Orient on 13 May 2001, and the lowest was 2,675 against Notts County in the League Cup on 22 August 2000. The average home league attendance was 6,676.
