Cardiff City’s 1995–96 season was their 69th in the Football League. They played in Division Three, the fourth tier, in a 24-team league and finished 22nd. The club was owned by Samesh Kumar and managed by Kenny Hibbitt, with Phil Neal taking over later in the season. In cup competitions, Cardiff reached the second round of the FA Cup and the League Cup, and the second round of the Auto Windscreens Shield. The top scorer was Carl Dale, with 21 league goals and 30 in all competitions. The highest home attendance was 7,772 (against Northampton on 19 August 1995) and the lowest was 1,611 (against Wigan Athletic on 5 March 1996), with an average league attendance of 3,420.
