1994 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election

The 1994 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election was held in December 1994 to elect the state government for the next five years. The state has 294 constituencies, with 39 reserved for Scheduled Castes and 15 for Scheduled Tribes. There were 44,725,091 registered voters and 31,763,466 votes were cast, giving a turnout of 71.02%.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N. T. Rama Rao, won a huge majority with 216 seats. The Indian National Congress (INC(I)) won 26 seats, while the remaining seats went to other parties and independents. The TDP's share of the popular vote was about 44.14%, and INC(I) received about 33.85%.

Before the election, Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy of INC(I) was Chief Minister. After the election, N. T. Rama Rao of the TDP became Chief Minister for the third time. Rama Rao contested from Hindupur (which he won and retained) and also from Tekkali (which he won but later vacated). Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy’s seat was Dhone.
