1991 Spanish Grand Prix recap

The event was the fourth round of the 1991 season, held at the Jerez circuit on May 12, 1991. The track is a 4.218 km permanent racing facility.

500cc
- Pole position: Wayne Rainey (Yamaha) at 1:46.881
- Fastest lap: Wayne Rainey (Yamaha) at 1:47.615
- Podium: 1) Michael Doohan (Honda) 2) John Kocinski (Yamaha) 3) Wayne Rainey (Yamaha)
- Race notes: Rainey started from pole and led into turn 1 ahead of Doohan, Kocinski, Eddie Lawson and Kevin Schwantz. Doohan soon pulled away; Kocinski briefly passed Rainey. Doohan won by a clear margin, with Kocinski taking second and narrowing Rainey’s championship lead. Rainey said his tire blistered and he had to nurse it through the right-handers. Schwantz’s Suzuki suffered a piston failure while fighting for fourth.
