1990 Georgia state elections
Georgia's 1990 state elections produced solid wins for Democrats. Incumbent Governor Zell Miller defeated Republican Johnny Isakson (who would later become Miller’s U.S. Senate successor) after Miller beat Andrew Young and Roy Barnes in the Democratic primary. Miller campaigned on term limits and pledged to serve only one term as governor. In the lieutenant governor race, Democrat Pierre Howard defeated State Senator Joe Kennedy in the Democratic primary and then beat Republican Matt Towery in the general election.
Other results kept Democrats in control: Attorney General Mike Bowers, Secretary of State Max Cleland, and Werner Rogers were re-elected unopposed. In statewide races, Democrat Tommy Irvin defeated Republican Raymond Young 63.07% to 36.93%, and Democrat Tim Ryles defeated Republican Billy Lovett 51.30% to 48.70%. Joe Tanner, who had resigned from his position, stayed on the ballot and won re-election unopposed. In the Public Service Commission, Mac Barber (D) won Seat 1 over Jim West (R) 61.25% to 38.75%, and Bob Durden (D) won Seat 2 over Elizabeth Goldin (L) 81.83% to 18.17%.
