1978 Ball State Cardinals football team

The 1978 Ball State Cardinals football team represented Ball State University in the Mid-American Conference during the 1978 NCAA Division I-A season. In Dwight Wallace’s first year as head coach, the Cardinals went 10–1 overall and 8–0 in the MAC, winning the conference title. They played home games at Ball State Stadium in Muncie, Indiana. Team captains were Ken Kremer, Rick Morrison, and Bill Stahl. Key players included Dave Wilson (1,037 passing yards), Archie Currin (735 rushing yards), Ray Hinton (417 receiving yards), and Mark O’Connell (60 points). Brady Hoke was a member of the team. Ball State did not win 10 games again until 2008, when they started 12–0 before losing the conference championship game and their bowl game.
