1977–78 Weber State Wildcats men's basketball team
In the 1977–78 NCAA Division I season, the Weber State Wildcats represented Weber State College in the Big Sky Conference. They played their home games at the new Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah, and were led by third-year head coach Neil McCarthy.
The team finished the regular season with a 17–9 record, going 9–5 in the Big Sky to place third. Weber State won the four-team Big Sky tournament in Missoula after beating Idaho State in the semifinal and defeating host Montana in overtime in the final, earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
In the NCAA tournament in Eugene, Oregon, Weber State lost in the first round to seventh-ranked Arkansas, who went on to reach the Final Four. This marked Weber State’s first NCAA appearance in five years.
Key players included sophomore guard Bruce Collins, who made the all-conference team, and sophomores forward David Johnson and center Richard Smith, who were honorable mentions.
