Carnarvon Range
The Carnarvon Range is a plateau in Central Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Great Dividing Range and runs about 160 kilometers long. In the northeast, the range forms the Consuelo Tableland, a plateau with Aboriginal rock paintings and sandstone gorges, including Carnarvon Gorge. Some of the range is protected as Carnarvon National Park. The range marks the northern edge of the Murray-Darling Basin and is the source of several rivers, including the Fitzroy, Warrego, Dawson, Merivale, and Nogoa. The Gungabula language is spoken in the Dawson River headwaters area, which includes parts of the Carnarvon Range. It was first explored by Ludwig Leichhardt and named by Thomas Mitchell, likely after the 4th Earl of Carnarvon. The native plant Macrozamia moorei grows there.
