1970-71 Ranji Trophy

The 1970-71 Ranji Trophy was the 37th season of India's domestic first-class cricket championship. 24 teams participated.

Champions: Bombay won their 13th consecutive title (22nd overall) by defeating Maharashtra in the final.

Season notes:
- On 16 August 1970, at the BCCI working committee meeting in Shillong, a proposal was approved to promote two teams from the zonal leagues to the knockout stage.
- Bombay had won the Ranji Trophy in the previous twelve seasons. Maharashtra had often struggled to qualify from the West Zone.
- In 1970-71, Maharashtra won the West Zone and Bombay finished second. Under the new rule, Bombay qualified for the knockout rounds as the second team and went on to beat Maharashtra in the final.
