1919 Copa del Rey final
The 1919 Copa del Rey final was played on 18 May 1919 at the Martínez Campos stadium in Madrid between Arenas Club de Getxo and FC Barcelona. About 8,000 spectators attended. Arenas won 5-2 after extra time, earning their first and only Copa del Rey title.
Arenas and Barcelona had reached the final as regional champions (Arenas from Biscay and Barcelona from Catalonia). Barcelona had won their earlier rounds, while Arenas produced a dramatic quarterfinal against Racing de Madrid and then beat Real Vigo Sporting to reach the final.
The final started with Arenas taking the lead when Félix Sesúmaga scored. Barcelona equalized through Viñals before half-time, and Lakatos put Barça ahead in the second half. With ten minutes left in regular time, Sesúmaga scored again to level the match at 2-2. In extra time, Sesúmaga completed his hat-trick, Peña added a fourth, and Ibaibarriaga capped the scoring to make it 5-2 for Arenas. Referee Julián Ruete oversaw the match and later retired from refereeing.
