1891 Rhode Island gubernatorial election
The 1891 Rhode Island gubernatorial election was held on April 1, 1891. Incumbent Democratic Governor John W. Davis ran for re-election and received 48.95% of the vote (22,249), while Republican Herbert W. Ladd received 46.19% (20,995). No candidate won a majority, so the Rhode Island General Assembly decided the result. With a Republican majority, the Assembly chose Herbert W. Ladd as governor, defeating the incumbent Democrat John W. Davis. The remaining votes went to other candidates.
