1780 Virginia gubernatorial election

A gubernatorial election was held in Virginia on June 2, 1780. The incumbent governor, Thomas Jefferson, was re-elected as a nonpartisan candidate.

Procedure: The Senate and the House of Delegates each nominated candidates on June 1. Because more than one candidate was nominated, the General Assembly had to vote. In a joint session on June 2, Jefferson was chosen by the majority on the first ballot. The records do not show the other candidates or the vote totals.
