1692 Subbotina is a dark, carbon-rich asteroid in the central part of the main asteroid belt. It is about 36 to 37 kilometers across and spins about every 9.25 hours.

It orbits the Sun every 4.65 years at a distance of roughly 2.4 to 3.2 astronomical units, with a slightly elongated orbit (eccentricity ~0.14) and a tilt of about 2.4 degrees. Its surface is very dark, with a low albedo around 0.04.

The asteroid was discovered on 16 August 1936 by Grigory Neujmin at Simeiz Observatory in Crimea, and was independently found the next night by Karl Reinmuth at Heidelberg. It had earlier sightings as 1927 SL and 1931 OA. It was named after Mikhail Subbotin (1893–1966), a Soviet mathematician and astronomer who directed the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy in Leningrad; the naming was officially published in 1967. The lunar crater Subbotin is named in his honor as well.
