Śanakanika Maharaja

Śanakanika Maharaja was a ruler from the Sanakanika tribe who served as a feudatory under the Gupta emperors, probably during the time of Chandragupta II (also called Vikramaditya). He ruled around 380–400 CE and is known from an inscription on a Vaishnavite cave temple at Udayagiri, dated to Gupta era year 82. His father was Visnudasa and his grandfather was Chagalaga, and like them he held the title Maharaja. The Sanakanikas seem to have been subjugated by Samudragupta, who was Chandragupta II’s father. The exact succession after Śanakanika Maharaja is not clearly recorded.
