Whiting Griswold
Whiting Griswold (November 12, 1814 – October 28, 1874) was an American abolitionist, lawyer, and politician from Massachusetts. He studied at Amherst College (class of 1838) and became a lawyer, admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1842. Griswold served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1848 to 1850, in the Massachusetts Senate from 1851 to 1852, and was a member of the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention in 1853. He was a Democrat with Free Soil views. In 1864 he served as a presidential elector for Abraham Lincoln. He was born in Buckland, Massachusetts, and died in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He was married to Fannie L. Clark and they had a son, Freeman Clark Griswold.
