Yamoussa Camara (politician)

Yamoussa Camara, born around 1953 in Bancoumana, Koulikoro Region (then French Sudan), is a Malian soldier and politician. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Bamako and at the École Supérieure de la Guerre in Tunis (2006–2007). He joined the Malian Army and was promoted to second lieutenant in 1981. He served as director of Prytanée Militaire in Kati from 1996 to 2000 and later as Chief of Staff of the National Guard from 2011 to 2012. From 24 April 2012 to 5 March 2014, he was Mali’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs under several prime ministers. He holds the rank of Major and has commanded the 133th Nomadic Company and served as Chief of Staff of the Presidential Guard. He has received awards including Knight of the National Order, Silver Star of National Merit, and the Assalam 2 Commemorative Medal.
