XVI Army Corps (XVI Cuerpo de Ejército) was a unit of the Spanish Republican Army in the Spanish Civil War. It existed from April 30, 1938, to March 1939. It was created on August 6, 1937, from the old Asturian II Army Corps, and its first commander was José Gállego Aragüés. The corps fought in the Battle of Santander, suffered heavy losses, and was dissolved. It was reformed in April 1938 with its headquarters in Tarancón, under the command of Miguel Palacios Martínez, who soon moved to the Levante front to defend Valencia against the nationalist offensive. The XVI Corps sat between the XIII and XIX corps in the Teruel sector and faced a renewed offensive in July, suffering significant casualties. At the height of the Levante campaign it included the 39th, 48th and 52nd divisions; after the Battle of the Ebro the Levante front stabilized. For the rest of the war, the XVI Army Corps did not take part in major operations.
