Wunghnu
Wunghnu is a small town in the Goulburn Valley region of northern Victoria, Australia. It’s in the Shire of Moira, about 204 kilometres north of Melbourne. The town sits on the Goulburn Valley Highway, near Nine Mile Creek. The Post Office opened in 1877. Wunghnu has a primary school on the west side of the highway, near the creek. The 1u cafe is at the north end of town, opposite the water tower and Graham Park, a popular rest stop for travellers with public toilets nearby. The railway station opened in 1881 on the Goulburn Valley line but today it’s only a siding with grain silos and no passenger services. Wunghnu is 26 km north of Shepparton and 7 km south of Numurkah. The town had a football team in the Picola & District Football League, but it folded due to lack of players. There is a bowls club and a Vintage Tractor Pull and Rally held on the last full weekend of March. Wunghnu has an active volunteer fire brigade with the CFA, and a private weather station operates there. The population was 334 at the 2016 census, and the postcode is 3635. The town receives about 427 mm of rain each year.
