Fifth Wran ministry (1983–1984)

The Fifth Wran ministry, the 75th ministry of the New South Wales Government, was led by Premier Neville Wran of the Labor Party. It ran from 1 February 1983 to 10 February 1984 and included 20 ministers. The opposition was the Liberal–National coalition, led by Nick Greiner.

Key events during this period:
- Wran temporarily stood aside for two months in May 1983 while a Royal Commission, led by Sir Laurence Street, investigated claims from a Four Corners program about Chief Magistrate Murray Farquhar. The Commission found Farquhar had attempted to pervert the course of justice. Wran was exonerated and resumed the premiership.
- Allegations emerged that Rex Jackson, the Minister for Corrective Services, accepted bribes related to an early-release scheme. Wran demanded Jackson’s resignation in October 1983.

Cabinet changes:
- Jackson resigned in October 1983.
- George Paciullo was promoted to the ministry in November 1983.

End of the ministry:
- The ministry ended on 10 February 1984 when Deputy Premier Jack Ferguson resigned, saying he would not contest the next election. The Sixth Wran ministry followed.
