Woodend North
Woodend North is a small area about 4 km north of Woodend in Victoria, Australia, in the Shire of Macedon Ranges. It is now mainly a residential and agricultural area, with some light industry, and forms the northern extension of Woodend.
At the 2006 census, 313 people lived there.
Woodend North was once known as Springfield, named for natural springs in the area. The name changed to avoid postal confusion with another Springfield near Romsey. The settlement used to have a Post Office, a State School, a general store, a blacksmith, and Patterson’s flour mill, but these are all now closed. There were three licensed hotels: the Springfield, the Highland Chief, and the Dalhousie.
The Post Office opened as Springfield on 11 November 1862, was renamed Woodend North on 8 September 1884, and closed on 31 January 1958.
Today, the former Woodend North State School remains as a privately owned residence.
