Willy Gómez
Raúl Gómez Ramírez, better known as Willy Gómez, was a Mexican footballer who played as a midfielder for Guadalajara for his entire career. He was born on 13 February 1950 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and started playing football at age seven. He joined the Oro youth team at 12 and turned professional with Guadalajara in 1967.
Gómez helped Guadalajara win the 1969–70 season, earning the league title as well as the Copa MX and Campeón de Campeones that year. He spent 13 seasons with the club, retiring after the 1975–76 season, and is remembered for moments like his 1972 game against Cruz Azul.
Internationally, Gómez played seven times for Mexico and scored one goal. His debut came on 8 March 1970 in a 1–0 friendly win over Peru, just before the 1970 World Cup.
He died on 1 February 2025 in Guadalajara at the age of 74. A moment of silence was held in his memory during a Guadalajara vs Querétaro match on the same day.
