Weziwe Thusi
Weziwe Thusi (Weziwe Gcotyelwa Thusi), born in 1951 or 1952, is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal and a member of the African National Congress (ANC). She served in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature and its Executive Council until 2019.
From May 2009 to November 2011, Thusi was the MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation. In November 2011, Premier Zweli Mkhize appointed her MEC for Social Development, a role she held for eight years. She was re-elected to the provincial legislature in 2014 and again in 2019.
After the 2019 general election, Premier Sihle Zikalala appointed Nonhlanhla Khoza to succeed her as MEC. Thusi then became a local councillor in the City of eThekweni (Durban area) and was elected Speaker of the eThekweni Metropolitan Council in September 2019. She served as Speaker until 2021 and then left politics; the ANC did not nominate her for re-election as a councillor.
Personal life: She was married to jazz musician Nhlanhla Brian Thusi, who died in July 2018.
