Washington Township, Shelby County, Ohio

Washington Township is a civil township in Shelby County, Ohio. The 2020 census counted 1,899 residents. The township covers about 25.2 square miles (25.0 sq mi land and 0.15 sq mi water) and sits in the southern part of the county. The village of Lockington is located in the southeastern part of the township.

Geography
- Borders Turtle Creek Township to the north, Clinton Township to the northeast, Orange Township to the east, Washington Township (Miami County) to the south, Loramie Township to the west, and Cynthian Township to the northwest.
- Location of Lockington, a village, is in the southeastern part of the township.

Name and history
- Washington Township was established in 1825.
- It is one of 43 Washington Townships statewide in Ohio.

Government
- The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees.
- Trustees are elected in November of odd-numbered years to four-year terms beginning January 1. Two trustees are elected in the year after a presidential election, and one is elected in the year before it.
- There is also an elected township fiscal officer serving a four-year term beginning April 1 after the election (held in November before the presidential election).
- Vacancies on the board or in the fiscal officership are filled by the remaining trustees.
