Overview and history
Menoreh began service on 21 September 2012, serving as a predecessor to the Fajar and Senja Utama Semarang trains. In 2015 it ran two daily services (morning and evening). The morning service, Menoreh I, was stopped on 4 October 2016 due to low occupancy, with its equipment reassigned to the Ambarawa Express.

Routing changes
To ease congestion at Pasar Senen, PT KAI extended Menoreh to Jakarta Kota Station on 29 May 2019. In 2021, a Pegadang Baru stop was added for Jakarta Kota-bound passengers. After a decline in passengers, the service returned to Pasar Senen on 1 June 2023.

Fleet updates
In January 2025, the fleet saw changes: new-generation economy coaches were replaced with standard economy coaches, and executive coaches from Kamandaka were added. The old economy coaches moved to Kamandaka on the Semarang Tawang–Purwokerto–Cilacap route in preparation for the 2025 timetable.
