Wang Shih-chien
Wang Shih-chien (Chinese: 王世堅), born January 1, 1960, in Taipei, Taiwan, is a Taiwanese politician and businessman. A member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), he serves in the Legislative Yuan representing Taipei City Constituency II since February 1, 2024. He previously served as a legislator from 2005 to 2008 and was a member of the Taipei City Council from 1998 to 2005 and again from 2010 to 2024.
He studied applied mathematics at National Chung Hsing University, earning a bachelor’s degree, and later earned a Master of Science in applied chemistry from Chinese Culture University in 1992. After college, Wang worked in the construction industry and became chairman of Richeng Construction Factory, with two subsidiary companies launching large housing projects in Xizhi and Tamsui.
Wang is married to Lin Hsiu-fen and they have two children.
Known for his distinctive public persona, Wang is sometimes mocked for resembling the horror character Chucky, a nickname he has embraced, saying he works to protect Taipei residents. He is also famous for giving gifts during council debates to poke at colleagues, including items such as a dragon robe, The One Ring, and books like Sun Zi’s The Art of War.
In 2008, he gained attention for a bet to jump into the sea with supporters after the KMT did not win all Taipei seats. He later criticized the 2017 Universiade budget as a rushed and chaotic affair. A quote of his from that period was remixed into an online meme in October 2025.
