Virginia State Route 620 (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties)
Virginia State Route 620 (SR 620) is a secondary highway in Northern Virginia, mostly known as Braddock Road. It runs about 28 miles through Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, from Columbia Pike (SR 244) near Lake Barcroft in Fairfax County to a roundabout with SR 705 (Lightridge Farm Road) in Stone Ridge, Loudoun County. The road passes through many neighborhoods and is a major commuter route, connecting with I-495, SR 123 near George Mason University, Fairfax County Parkway, and the I-66 area via SR 28. In Centreville, SR 620 has a short overlap with SR 659 (Union Mill Road).
SR 620 follows Braddock Road, a historic route with Civil War significance. Today, the highway exists as several pieces rather than a single continuous line, due to development and new roads over the years. The route was affected by the construction of I-66 in the 1960s and by a shopping center in the 1980s that created gaps. In 2009, Fairfax County added traffic-signal improvements at SR 123 and SR 620 to ease congestion; adding lanes or a park-and-ride was not pursued because of cost.
