Battle of Roses
Battle of Roses (Bara kassen) is a 1950 Japanese drama directed by Mikio Naruse. It is based on the pre-war novel Bara kassen by Fumio Niwa, with the screenplay by Motosada Nishiki. The film runs 98 minutes and was released in Japan by Shochiku on October 28, 1950. The story explores themes related to women's emancipation, a topic that some critics view as sensational. Naruse biographer Catherine Russell regards it as a lesser work, noting it may have been hastily put together with abrupt editing and a weaker script.
