Velocipedidae is a small family of true bugs with about 30 species found in the Indomalayan and Australasian regions. There are three genera: Scotomedes, Bloeteomedes, and Costomedes.

They live in decaying wood or on the forest floor near water. They are fast runners and good flyers, and are thought to be predators. Their bodies often carry mites hitching a ride. Many specimens are collected at lights. A fossil species, Aphrastomedes anthocoroides, from Burmese amber, is placed in this family.

Adults are about 10–15 mm long with an elongated head that points forward and an oval outline caused by a broad edge on the forewings. The head has a long neck area. The upper parts of the thorax and wings are densely pitted. They have simple eyes. The wing membrane has three small closed cells with veins that can be simple or forked. Their legs are long and built for fast running.
