The 1996 Miller 500 was Race 17 of 31 in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. It took place on July 21, 1996, at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The track is a 2.5-mile triangular course, and the race was 200 laps, totaling 500 miles (804.672 km). The average speed was 144.892 mph.

Mark Martin of Roush Racing won the pole position with a lap time of 53.441 seconds and led the most laps, 121. Rusty Wallace, driving car No. 2 for Penske Racing South, won the race. He pulled away on a final restart with 14 laps to go, earning his 45th career NASCAR Winston Cup victory and his 5th win of the season. Ricky Rudd finished second for Rudd Performance Motorsports, and Dale Jarrett finished third for Robert Yates Racing.

Qualifying was delayed by rain and combined into a single round. Each driver ran one lap, and all who tried qualified. Mark Martin started first, with a speed of 168.410 mph (271.030 km/h).
