Vancouver Waterfront station
Vancouver Waterfront is a proposed light‑rail station and bus hub in Vancouver, Washington, intended to connect with Portland’s MAX system. If built, it would be the first MAX station outside Oregon and could be about 75 feet tall, making it one of the tallest rapid‑transit structures in the United States. The station would sit near I‑5, between Evergreen Boulevard and E 8th Street (north–south) and Reserve Street and C Street (east–west).
The project is part of the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program and would extend light rail into Vancouver. The idea has been discussed since MAX began, with serious talks around the Columbia River Crossing in 2006. It has sparked debate in Clark County, with some residents in favor and others opposed (including Camas and Battle Ground). Local leaders have varied in their stance, with former mayors Royce Pollard and Tim Leavitt supporting light rail, while current Mayor Anne McEnerny‑Ogle has been more cautious but supportive.
In May 2023, Vancouver announced plans to buy the empty lot at C Street and E 8th Street for the future station and bus hub, and the purchase was completed on June 28, 2023 for $12 million. In January 2024, the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program team shared several possible station designs for the site.
