Val Russein
Val Russein is a valley in the Swiss Alps, in the canton of Graubünden, south of the Tödi group. It is drained by the Aua da Russein, a tributary of the Vorderrhein, and the river runs near Cumpadials at 962 meters above sea level. The valley belongs to the municipalities of Disentis and Sumvitg. At Alp Cavrein (1,575 m) three side valleys meet to form the main Val Russein: Val Cavadiras, Val Gronda da Cavrein and Val Gronda da Russein.
The valley is about 10 kilometers long and hosts some of the highest mountains in Graubünden outside the Bernina Range, including Tödi (Piz Russein) at 3,614 m; Piz Urlaun at 3,359 m; Düssi at 3,256 m; and Piz Cambrialas at 3,208 m. Val Russein connects to Uri via Fuorcla Cavadiras (2,609 m) and to Glarus via the Sandpass (2,781 m). A small hydroelectric dam sits at Barcuns Dadens at 1,362 m. At the valley bottom, the river is crossed by a road bridge and a rail viaduct.
