VA-36 (U.S. Navy)
VA-36, nicknamed the Roadrunners, was a United States Navy attack squadron. It began as Fighter Squadron VF-102 on May 1, 1952, was redesignated VA-36 on July 1, 1955, and was disestablished on August 1, 1970. It was the first unit to bear the VA-36 designation; a second VA-36 existed from March 6, 1987 to April 1, 1994. The squadron served in the Vietnam War and flew several aircraft during its history, including the FG-1D Corsair, the F9F Panther family (F9F-5/B and F9F-8/T variants), and the A-4 Skyhawk (A4D-2, C, E variants). The squadron’s home ports and exact aircraft delivery dates are recorded in naval archives.
