Ujazd is a village in south-central Poland, in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Opatów County, within Gmina Iwaniska. It lies about 4 km southeast of Iwaniska, 14 km southwest of Opatów, and 53 km east of Kielce. The village is famous for the ruins of the Krzyżtopór castle. Ujazd’s history goes back to medieval Poland under the Piast rulers and it is first mentioned around 1174–1176 in connection with the Jędrzejów monastery, with another reference in 1210. It was a private village owned by noble families such as Oleśnicki, Zborowski, Ossoliński, Kalinowski, Wiśniowiecki, Morsztyn, Pac, Sołtyk, Łempicki and Orsetti, and was part of Sandomierz County in the Lesser Poland Province. The Krzyżtopór castle was built by Krzysztof Ossoliński and defended Poland during the Deluge of 1655 and the Bar Confederation in 1770, after which it suffered damage. In 1827, Ujazd had 143 residents. Today it is a small historic village in Opatów County with about 530 inhabitants, known for its castle ruins.
