Ty Pickup
Ty Pickup was an American baseball outfielder born on October 29, 1897, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He batted and threw right-handed. Pickup played one Major League Baseball game for the Philadelphia Phillies on April 30, 1918. In his lone MLB at-bat, he singled, and he played one inning in right field.
In 1918 he also played 49 games for the Eastern League’s New London Planters, batting .234. The following year he played for the Pittsfield Hillies in the Eastern League, hitting .285 in 100 games and helping the team win the pennant. He spent 1920 with three different minor league teams, hitting .236 overall, and in 1921 he batted .243.
After six years away from professional baseball, he returned in 1928 for one season in the Eastern Carolina League, posting a career-high .293 batting average and nine home runs.
Ty Pickup died on August 2, 1974, in Philadelphia at age 76 and was buried in St. Dominic Cemetery.
