Passport features
The front page shows the model and passport number, and notes that the passport is the property of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The last page contains a request from the Minister of Foreign Affairs asking others to allow the bearer to pass freely and to provide assistance as needed.
Visa and travel
TT issued passport holders can travel to many countries without a visa or with visa on arrival. Since May 2015, Trinidad and Tobago citizens have visa-free access to the Schengen Area. In 2019, the passport ranked 28th globally for travel freedom, with access to about 151 countries, and it ranks 4th among CARICOM passports.
Naturalization and citizenship
People who become citizens through naturalization must take the Oath of Allegiance, administered by the Citizenship and Immigration Section of the Ministry of National Security. The oath is a formal promise to be loyal and to obey Trinidad and Tobago’s laws. After the oath, the person receives a Certificate of Citizenship. The oath is separate from the National Pledge.
Oath in simple terms
A formal promise to be faithful to Trinidad and Tobago, to observe its laws, and to fulfill one’s duties as a citizen (the exact wording is recited during the ceremony).
