The Tri-Cities in British Columbia are the nearby communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody, plus the villages of Anmore and Belcarra in northeast Metro Vancouver. Together they had about 246,701 residents in 2021. The area is served by School District No. 43, which had about 33,033 students in 2016/17. Local media includes the Tri-City News; other outlets have closed or merged. CKPM-FM, a Tri-Cities radio station, launched in 2012 but stopped broadcasting in 2019 after its licence wasn’t renewed. For driving, the Trans-Canada Highway links the area to Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey. Lougheed Highway and Barnet Highway are other major routes. Public transit is run by TransLink. The Evergreen Line extension to SkyTrain opened on December 2, 2016, adding six stations from Coquitlam to Port Moody. The West Coast Express commuter train also stops in the Tri-Cities at three stations. The local business group is the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce.
