Trezise
Trezise, also spelled Tresize or Tresise, is a Cornish surname. It likely comes from farms or places in Cornwall, such as Trezise in St Martin in Meneage or Tresayes in Roche. The name comes from the old Cornish Tre-saws, meaning “the place of the Saxons,” a nod to early English settlers. One of the earliest records is Margery Tresise, baptized on 1 October 1632 in St Erth; her father was Anthony Tresise. She died in 1641 and was buried in St Erth, and she had siblings including Edward (1640) and Anthony (1643), who are ancestors of many people with the name today. Spelling varied a lot, and families often used different forms in births, deaths, marriages, and censuses. In the 1881 census, 454 people had variants of Tresise/Trezise, with 309 in Cornwall and Devon, 18 in Greater London, and the rest spread across Wales, the south of England, and beyond.
