Gonioteuthis is a genus of belemnites, an extinct group of cephalopods (squid-like animals). The name means “narrow squid.” These creatures grew to about 8 inches (20 cm) in body length, not counting their tentacles, and they fed on small marine animals. Fossils have been found in the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden, dating to the late Cretaceous period (about 85–70 million years ago). In Sweden’s Kristianstad Basin, a species named Gonioteuthis quadrata has been found.
