2015–16 Sacramento Kings season
The 2015–16 Sacramento Kings season was the franchise’s 71st overall, its 67th in the NBA, and its 31st in Sacramento. It was also the last season they played at Sleep Train Arena before moving to the Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento the next year. This would also be DeMarcus Cousins’ last full season with the Kings before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans midway through the following season.
The Kings finished 33–49, four wins better than the previous year. They finished 3rd in the Pacific Division and 10th in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs by eight wins. It was the first time since 2004–05 they weren’t among the bottom two in the Pacific, and the first season since 2007–08 with a winning percentage above 40% and without a 50-loss season.
After the season, head coach George Karl was fired, coming one game shy of his 2,000th career game as a head coach. He was replaced by Dave Joerger, and guard Rajon Rondo left to sign with the Chicago Bulls in free agency. The Kings’ ownership was Vivek Ranadive, with Vlade Divac as general manager.
