Tranopelta
Tranopelta is a small genus of ants in the subfamily Myrmicinae. It contains about four species that live in the Neotropical region, from Central to South America. These ants nest in soil or in leaf litter. The genus was described by Mayr in 1866, with Tranopelta gilva as the type species. For example, Tranopelta gilva is found from Costa Rica to Brazil, while Tranopelta subterranea occurs in Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil.
