Stephenville High School
Stephenville High School (SHS) is a public high school in Stephenville, Texas. The address is 2650 W Overhill Dr, Stephenville, TX 76401-1972. It is part of the Stephenville Independent School District in central Erath County and serves grades 9–12. In 2023–2024, SHS enrolled about 1,115 students with a student-teacher ratio of 13.44 and around 83 full‑time staff. The school colors are navy and gold, and the mascot is the Yellow Jackets (also called Honeybees). SHS competes in UIL Class AAAA and offers cross country, volleyball, football, basketball, powerlifting, soccer, golf, tennis, track, softball, and baseball.
The football program is especially notable. It did not reach the playoffs from 1952 to 1989, but under coach Art Briles it made the playoffs every year from 1989 to 1999 and won state titles in 1993, 1994, 1998, and 1999. After Briles left, the team continued to reach the playoffs in most years and won a fifth state title in 2012 under coach Joe Gillespie. They added a sixth and seventh state title in 2021 and 2025 under coach Sterling Doty.
