Three Counties railway station
Three Counties railway station was a disused station near Arlesey in Bedfordshire, England. It served Arlesey and the surrounding area, including the Three Counties Lunatic Asylum (later Fairfield Hospital).
The station opened on 1 April 1866 by the Great Northern Railway as Arlesey Siding. It was renamed Three Counties on 1 July 1886, taking its new name from the nearby asylum, a project shared by three counties: Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire.
It lay north of Hitchin on the London–Peterborough line and had two platforms.
In 1923, the Great Northern Railway became part of the London and North Eastern Railway. After nationalisation in 1948, it came under the Eastern Region of British Railways.
Passenger services ended on 5 January 1959, and goods services ended on 28 November 1960. The nearby Arlesey station remained in use for a time and later reopened.
