Thomas van Aalten, born 26 September 1978 in Huissen, Gelderland, is a Dutch writer. He published his first story at age 19 in the literary magazine Zoetermeer. He has written several novels, including Sneeuwbeeld (2000), Tupelo (2001), Sluit Deuren en Ramen (2003), Coyote (2006) and De Onderbreking (2009). He has also contributed articles to magazines such as 3voor12, Passionate, VARA TV Magazine, Revu and Vrij Nederland. His writing is known for absurd dialogues, creepy atmospheres and strange characters. He is a fan of FC St. Pauli and rock music, liking Motörhead and The Sisters of Mercy. He often collaborates with Berlin-based filmmaker Edwin Brienen. His fifth novel, Exile, was released only on a mobile phone via an SMS, a project commenting on the abuse of new technologies. He continues to write and publish.
