The Tights were an English punk rock band from Worcester. They released two singles on Cherry Red Records in 1978: "Bad Hearts" / "It" / "Cracked" and "Howard Hughes" / "China's Eternal". After John Peel played "Bad Hearts" on BBC Radio 1, it reached number six on the UK punk chart. The follow-up "Howard Hughes" reached number four. The band split in 1979 after their farewell show at the Marquee Club in London. A 1980 BBC Blackburn interview with Ian Curtis of Joy Division praised The Tights. The band reformed in 2004. Bassist Barry Island (also known as Gary Marsden) later recorded an album, Killing Without Touching, with his band Threshing Ground, which gained popularity in Australia with songs like "I'm in Love With a Girl Called Vinyl" and "Last Beer in Bondi." Rick Mayhew was later replaced by Mark Simon.
