The Sweeter Side of Life
The Sweeter Side of Life is a 2013 American Hallmark Channel romantic comedy. It stars Kathryn Morris as Desiree Harper and James Best as her father Paddy Kerrigan. The film was written and produced by Michael Damian and Janeen Damian, marking their seventh collaboration.
Plot: Desiree is a pampered Manhattan socialite whose husband Wade wants a divorce. A prenuptial leaves her penniless, so she returns home to Flemington, New Jersey to help run her father’s bakery. She isn’t sure about life as a baker, but she creates a gourmet cupcake that becomes a big hit. The bakery gains attention and even franchising offers. Desiree must choose between selling the bakery to return to her old lifestyle or staying to help her family, and she starts to open up to a possible romance with Benny Christophe.
Production: The film was shot in New York City and at Castel Film Studios in Bucharest, Romania, and is set in NYC and Flemington, New Jersey. The working title was Confections of a Discarded Woman. The movie runs 90 minutes and was produced by Motion Picture Corporation of America and Riviera Films. It premiered on January 19, 2013.
